Does creatine and caffeine really cancel each other out? Looking for studies on this.
I've been reading a lot about the effects of creatine and caffeine, especially since I rely on both to get through my workouts, given my chronic illness. Some people say they cancel each other out, while others claim they can actually work together. This got me wondering: what does the research say?
A study by McCormick et al. (2017) looked into how caffeine affects creatine's performance benefits. They found that caffeine can interfere with creatine's ability to enhance performance, but only in certain circumstances. The effect size was pretty modest, and it seems that combining them doesn't entirely negate the benefits. Another research by McNaughton et al. (2008) suggests that individuals who regularly consume caffeine might not see as much of a performance boost from creatine as those who don't.
I guess I'm just trying to sort through the noise and find solid evidence. I still want to get the most out of my supplements, especially since I'm putting in the work at the gym. So, has anyone come across any more studies or meta-analyses that delve deeper into this topic? What are your experiences with using both?
