Trap Bar Deadlift: Is it a Real Deadlift or Just an Accessory?

TL;DR: Trap bar deadlift: accessory or legit? Hitting 275 for 5, but feel like I'm cheating.

So I've been loving the trap bar deadlift lately and seeing some solid gains, but I can't help but wonder if I'm just playing with a glorified accessory. I mean, can it really replace the classic deadlift? I've been hitting 275 for 5 reps, and my back is thanking me, but I lowkey feel like I'm cheating. Anyone else feel this way or have any hot takes on this? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I think of the trap bar as a solid accessory for building strength without wrecking your back. I mean, I can pull more weight on the trap bar than a conventional deadlift, and that's not a bad thing.

Totally agree! I incorporate some yoga into my routine, and it really complements my lifting. Just like you, I find that the trap bar feels safer. Balance it out with flexibility training for best results.

That's the thing! If you're hitting 275 for 5, you're in a good spot. Think about your heart rate too. Strength training is great for cardiovascular health, but don't forget to mix in some zone 2 work to round it out.

this. A trap bar deadlift is like the pizza of deadlifts. You can never go wrong with it, just make sure to load it up!

Honestly, my partner and I argue about this all the time. He swears by the conventional deadlift, but I think as long as you're lifting smart and feeling good, do what works! We all have different body mechanics

You could say it's a 'real deadlift,' but i lowkey think it depends on what you want to achieve. If you're aiming for strength, just keep pushing those numbers. But don't forget about other variations too.

The trap bar definitely has its place in any program. It lets you load up the weight while reducing the stress on ur back, which is especially helpful if you have previous injuries. Plus, you can focus on form and engagement without stressing your spine.

Honestly, trap bar deadlifts saved my lifting journey as a busy mom. It fits into my schedule better and keeps my back in check while I juggle everything else. Do what feels right and fits into your life

Trap bar deadlifts are definitely not cheating. They allow for a more neutral spine position, which is great for avoiding injury. If you're hitting solid numbers and feeling good, that's a win. They're a legit variation, so keep at it!

For real, I switched to trap bar deadlifts after my back started hurting. It lets me lift heavy without that insane strain. So yes, it's definitely a real deadlift in its own right.

I used to think the same, but honestly, it feels great for my back and legs. Plus, my vegan gains are coming in hot with it. Don't feel bad about what works for you!

You're getting the benefits of deadlifting without the same risk, which is awesome. Nutrition matters too, so make sure you're eating enough to support those gains. Trap bar, traditional, it's all about what fits your body best
