Does taking glycine before bed really help with sleep quality?

TL;DR: Looking for insights on glycine's effectiveness for sleep quality; is it worth it?

I've been reading a lot about glycine and its supposed benefits for sleep. Some studies show that taking around 3g before bed can improve sleep quality and reduce wakefulness. Sounds good in theory, but is it worth adding to my routine? I've seen mixed reviews in the community.

I know glycine is an amino acid that can act as a neurotransmitter. But do we really need it, especially when we consider that most of us are getting plenty of protein in our diets? It feels like every week there's a new supplement claiming to enhance sleep, and it's hard to separate the hype from the actual evidence. Any of you tried it? What's your experience? I'm skeptical but open to hearing some real results.

Glycine sounds cool, but you know what's cooler? Creatine. Just saying. Supplement like a boss, but make sure your base is strong!

Honestly, I find more value in sticking to my routine than relying on supplements like glycine. If you don't have a solid sleep schedule, adding something isn't going to magically fix things. I mean, a little discipline goes a long way.

Glycine does have some studies backing its role in improving sleep quality. A couple of small studies found that 3g can help lower core body temperature, which is linked to better sleep onset. If you're skeptical, you might want to try it for a few weeks and see if it makes a difference for you.

People treat glycine like it's some mystical sleep spell. Like, bro, just hit your macros and chill out. 😂

I was skeptical too, but after I tried it, I was surprised. My sleep did get better, but I also realized I was just more stressed before. Now I'm lifting, doing yoga, and taking glycine, and it all kind of works together. Who knew?

As a coach, I've seen some clients benefit from glycine, but it really comes down to individual response. Everyone's body reacts differently. If you're hitting your protein goals and still have trouble sleeping, it could be worth experimenting.

Lowkey, I'm just trying to figure out how to lift heavy and sleep well without being an insomniac. If glycine helps, I might just try it for science.

I've been taking glycine for about a month now, and honestly, my sleep feels deeper! I still wake up sometimes, but I feel way more refreshed in the morning. Plus, I love that it's not a hardcore supplement like melatonin.

I tried a glycine supplement once, but I didn't notice much difference. I think I need to focus more on my bedtime routine. Maybe I'll bake some protein pancakes and chill instead. 🍳

Ngl, I've never tried glycine, but I have a friend who swears by it for her sleep. I just stick to running and sometimes I can't sleep after those long runs, so maybe I should give it a shot.

I just started a cutting phase and was struggling with sleep. I added glycine before bed and my sleep has improved! Less tossing and turning for sure. Plus, it's cheap, so not a big risk to try

As a grandma who lifts, I can tell you that sleep is crucial! I tried glycine and it's not a magic potion, but it did help me feel a bit more rested. Just make sure you're not neglecting your overall health

I'm a runner and sleep is everything for recovery! If glycine can help, I'd give it a shot. Just keep in mind it's not a replacement for good sleep habits.

As a vegan, I appreciate that glycine can be found in plant-based protein sources, but I also supplement with it. It's been a game changer for my sleep quality. If you're getting enough protein overall, it might be a nice addition to your routine.

People act like supplements are the key to everything, but sleep comes down to habits, fam. Just cut the caffeine and you'll sleep like a baby. 🤷‍♂️

Dude, if you're relying on supplements for sleep, you might be barking up the wrong tree. Just fix your sleep hygiene and lift heavy. Glycine is cool, but it's not gonna lift your weights for you.

I tried glycine after reading similar studies, and it did help me relax before bed. I find it easier to wind down now. Just remember to establish a bedtime routine, put away screens and maybe read a book too.

If you're into calisthenics like me, recovery is key. I haven't used glycine, but I've been focusing on my diet and sleep schedule. It's like building a solid foundation before adding extras!
