Struggling with energy after 60 days of zero carbs, ferritin levels are low, any advice?

TL;DR: Struggling with low energy and ferritin levels after 60 days on a zero-carb diet; looking for tips on balancing macros.

So, I'm 60 days into a zero-carb diet, and I have to say, it's been quite the ride. As a busy mom of three who runs marathons, I thought this would be a great way to shed some weight and increase my energy levels. I've definitely lost some weight, but my energy is taking a hit, and my latest ferritin levels came back low.

I've tried to keep my protein intake high, but I'm feeling fatigued during my runs, and it's a little concerning. I was under the impression that zero carbs would help me feel more energetic after the initial adjustment, but that hasn't been my experience. I'm wondering if anyone else has navigated a similar journey and how you balanced your macros to maintain energy levels while on a restrictive diet. Did you have to make adjustments or reintroduce any carbs?

With kids to chase and marathons to train for, I could really use some insights here!

Lmao, I tried going zero carbs once and it felt like my brain was running on fumes! Ever thought about sneaking in some healthy carbs like fruits or whole grains? Those will definitely give u a boost without completely derailing your diet. Just a thought!

You're on the right track with wanting to balance macros, but zero carbs might not be sustainable for a busy mom training for marathons. I track my runs and nutrition with Strava and MyFitnessPal, and I've noticed that I perform better when I include carbs around my workouts. That could be your missing link!

100% agree with adjusting your carb intake. I'm in a cutting phase right now, and I learned the hard way that carbs are essential, especially for endurance sports. I track my macros using MacroFactor, and it helps me find that balance without going overboard. You might want to look into something similar to help manage your intake better.

Low ferritin levels can definitely contribute to fatigue. Have you considered getting your iron levels checked? I had a similar experience and had to supplement with iron while adjusting my diet. It can really help with energy levels. Just make sure to discuss this with your doctor first before making any changes.

Ngl, I don't get why people think zero carbs is the way to go. Eating enough carbs can actually help with muscle recovery and performance. I usually stick to my bro splits and make sure to include carbs around my workouts for that extra energy boost.

Bro, I get it! You want to shed weight and feel great, but zero carbs can mess you up if you're not careful. Lifting and running needs fuel! Adding in some complex carbs could be what you need to hit those PRs. You got this!

Your experience sounds tough! If you're open to it, I have some great recipes that include healthy carbs without sacrificing nutrition. Like a quinoa salad with veggies and a little olive oil, it's packed with nutrients and keeps you energized. I'd be happy to share if you want!

I totally understand where you're coming from. I did a low-carb diet for a while too, and while I lost weight, my energy levels were not great, especially during my runs. After a couple of months, I decided to reintroduce some healthy carbs like sweet potatoes and quinoa, and I noticed a significant improvement in my stamina. Sometimes, our bodies just need a little more fuel, especially when we're so active with kids and training.

If you're feeling fatigued during runs, it might be time to adjust your carb intake. I had to learn the hard way that carbs are vital for endurance, especially for marathon training. Maybe try adding some healthy options back into your meals and see how it feels. Balance is key.

You know, when I went low carb, my energy went down too. But once I added back in some oats or brown rice, I felt like a new dad! Maybe just try to ease in a bit of carbs. It's like getting back to the groove of parenting, sometimes you just need a little help.
