How to manage macros during IBD flares? RD + IBD specialist, AMA!

TL;DR: Looking for macro tips during IBD flare-ups, especially protein sources and meal strategies.

Hi everyone! I'm a 21-year-old college student trying to balance fitness and my IBD. Lately, I've been struggling with flare-ups and finding it hard to stick to my macros. I know protein is key for gains, but sometimes my stomach just can't handle it. Are there specific macro recommendations or meal strategies for during flares? Should I focus on low FODMAP foods or something else? I'm just so eager to keep making progress, but I don't want to make my symptoms worse. Any tips or resources would be super appreciated! Thanks so much! 馃挅

Honestly, tracking macros during flares feels like trying to solve a Rubik's Cube blindfolded. Like, are u even supposed to care about protein if your stomach's about to blow up? Just eat what feels right.

For real, listen to your body. It's not about hitting those macros perfectly when you're dealing with IBD. Just focus on nourishing yourself. That's the ultimate goal.

Managing macros during IBD flares can be tricky. Focusing on easily digestible proteins like eggs or chicken can help. Also, remember to stay hydrated, it's super important!

If protein is tough to manage, you can try some easy sources like cottage cheese or Greek yogurt. They're lower in lactose and still give you a solid protein boost.

If you're supplementing, consider adding some probiotics. They can help with digestion and gut health, especially if you're going through flares. Just make sure to check with your doc first.

I totally get this struggle! During my last flare, I relied on smoothies with protein powder, yogurt, and some fruit. Super easy to digest and packed with nutrients.

It's all about experimenting with your diet. During my toughest times, i focused on nutrient timing. Prepping meals in advance saved my ass and kept me on track!

Yesss, smoothies are the way to go! I love adding spinach and berries for extra nutrients, plus they're so refreshing.

Yoga and light movement can also help ease symptoms during flares. It's not just about food, but how you feel overall. Mindfulness and breathing exercises can do wonders.

Low FODMAP can be really helpful for many people with IBD. Just listen to your body and track what works for you, it's all about finding your balance.

i can't believe people underestimate the power of carbs when you're flaring. Seriously, some rice and chicken can work wonders for your energy levels. #realfood

You might want to consider adjusting your macro ratios during flares. Increasing carbs and fats can give you energy without overwhelming your gut. Low FODMAP foods can definitely help too.
