Is sumo deadlifting cheating compared to conventional?

TL;DR: Is sumo deadlifting legit or just cheating?

I've been lifting for 3 years and recently switched to sumo deadlifts to target my quads more, but I keep hearing people say it's 'cheating.' Like, what's the deal? I hit a 405lb conventional deadlift last month, and now I'm trying to figure out if sumo is actually a legit lift or just an easier way out. The mechanics feel different but am I rly slacking? I feel like it's just a variation and people need to chill. Thoughts?

I respect all lifting styles, but I gotta say, I love seeing people diversify their workouts! It's all about what feels right for your body. And let's be real, your body needs different stimuli to grow.

And who cares what others think anyway? Just have fun with it! I like to run on the weekends, and it's all about enjoying the journey for me.

Bro, if sumo is cheating, then pizza is just a veggie! Sumo deadlift is just as legit as conventional. Focus on your gains, not the comments!

Cheating? Nah, that's just old-school gym bro mentality. Sumo engages different muscle groups and can help improve your overall strength. As long as you're lifting safely and effectively, do what works for you.

100% this! Each lift has its own perks, and sumo can be a great way to target specific muscles. Just make sure you're having fun while lifting. Caffeine helps too, haha!

Ngl, I think people just use 'cheating' as an excuse when they can't pull the same weight. Sumo or conventional, just keep lifting hard! And for anyone asking, a plant-based diet can definitely support those lifts.

That's a great point! I've found that switching up my lifts not only keeps things fresh but also helps with my overall performance. Plus, my kids get to see me lift different ways, which is a win-win.

Imagine if people judged pizza like they judge sumo! Just enjoy your lifts and eat your pizza, fam. Everyone's got their preference.

I'm a busy mom and I found sumo deadlifts easier to fit into my routine with limited time. Every rep counts, no matter the style. The kids think it's funny when I deadlift, but it keeps me strong for them!

Exactly! I always say variety is the spice of life, especially in fitness. Changing up your routine can help with recovery too. Your body appreciates the break.

I think sumo is just another variation to keep things interesting. I mix it up often, and it helps with my overall strength. Plus, it's cool to challenge your body in different ways. Just track your progress!

Facts, sumo can actually build your quads more effectively than conventional. I had to adapt my form but once I did, my lifts shot up. Don't let the haters get to you!

Also, have you thought about how your mobility plays into it? Sometimes switching styles helps with flexibility too. I try to mix my runs with different terrains for variety!

I tried sumo for a bit, and it felt so different! But honestly, if it helps you hit your quads more, go for it! Lifting should be fun, not just a competition.

I'll add that switching lifts can help prevent injuries too. You don't want to overwork the same muscles all the time. Keep pushing your limits, whatever that looks like!

I don't get why people think sumo is cheating. It's just a different way to hit your muscles, and honestly, if you can pull big numbers, who cares about the style? I hit 405 on conventional too, and switching it up is how I avoid plateaus. Progress is progress.

People need to chill. Lifting should be inclusive and enjoyable. If sumo helps you target your quads better, that's just smart training! Everyone's journey is different, so keep going strong.

Honestly, switching it up is how you keep gains! Sumo deadlifts can really hit those quads hard. I've noticed way better leg days when I mix it in. Keep at it!

I think the important part is that you're lifting and enjoying it. My workouts have to fit my family life, and that means doing what works best for me. If sumo deadlifting helps you, go for it!

Honestly, I don't get the hate. I've seen people pull heavy with sumo and it's impressive. Just lift what you love and let the naysayers do their thing. Focus on you!
