Lifting Through Chemo: Has Anyone Done It? Here's My Progress Before/After
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my journey of lifting through chemotherapy. It has been a challenging process, but I am determined to keep moving forward. Before starting treatment, I was consistently lifting with a 1RM of 150 lbs for squats and 100 lbs for bench press.
During chemo, I had to adjust my expectations and frequency. My energy levels fluctuated, and I experienced significant fatigue. Still, I managed to maintain a modified lifting routine, focusing on lower weights and higher reps to keep my muscles engaged without overexerting myself. I also emphasized nutrient-dense, low-sugar meals to support my body. I'll include a few recipes that helped me stay on track with my nutrition.
Now, after six months of treatment, I've recently hit a squat PR of 140 lbs and bench press of 90 lbs again, which feels amazing considering the circumstances. I've attached my before and after pictures.
Has anyone else lifted through similar challenges? What tips do you have for managing workouts while going through treatment? I'd love to hear your experiences and any advice you can share!
