When should female lifters consider iron supplements?

As a nurse and fitness enthusiast, I see so many women unsure about iron supplementation. It's crucial, especially for those of us lifting heavy. If your diet is low in red meat or dark leafy greens, you might want to think about adding a supplement, especially if you're experiencing fatigue or heavy periods. What do you all think? Is there a specific time when you felt you needed to supplement iron?

My friend said she felt like a zombie before starting iron supplements. I thought she was exaggerating until she started PRing left and right after! Crazy what a little iron can do. 🦸‍♀️

Facts! Iron is essential, especially if you're pushing for those PRs. Don't sleep on checking your levels, or you might be leaving gains on the table. Also, remember to pair iron with vitamin C for better absorption. Just sayin'.

On the topic of iron, I've also seen women worried about side effects of supplements. They can definitely cause gastrointestinal issues if you're not careful with the dosage. I recommend starting small and monitoring how your body responds. You don't want to feel worse when you're trying to get better!

Skill issue. Just eat more steak, bro. Joking aside, I get why some might need supplements, but if you're lifting heavy and feeling drained, it might just mean you need to adjust your diet.

I totally get the diet-first mentality, but not everyone can eat a perfectly balanced diet every day. Life gets in the way, and sometimes supplementation is necessary. I've had my fair share of days where meal prepping didn't happen, and that's when I lean on my iron supplements.

Yup! I actually started taking iron supplements when my workouts got more intense. I noticed I was dragging during my WODs and after chatting with my coach, it seemed like a good idea to check my levels. Now, I feel way more energized during my lifts!

Ngl, I only found out about my low iron after feeling super weak during calisthenics. I thought I just needed to train harder! Turns out, I needed to supplement. Keep an eye on your body signals, folks!

I think it's super important to focus on a balanced diet first! Sure, supplements can help, but real food is the best source of nutrients. I love making iron-rich meals for my family. Stuff like lentil stew or beef stir-fry really hits the spot and tastes amazing!

This is all good, but also make sure you're lifting correctly. Sometimes, if your form is off, you could just be feeling drained from trying to compensate. That said, I see the need for iron supplementation too, especially for women.

Iron? More like 'iron't I lifting enough to need that? But seriously, if u're feeling sluggish or can't recover after heavy days, definitely consider it. Gotta keep those gains coming!

As a nurse, I often see women who don't realize the importance of iron. Heavy lifting can deplete your iron stores, especially if your diet lacks sufficient sources. If you're feeling unusually tired, it might be time to check your levels.

I've been lifting for about five years now, and iron became a concern for me during my heavier lifting phases. I started feeling fatigued and sluggish, even with proper nutrition. After getting my levels checked, I realized I was low. Adding a supplement really helped me bounce back and perform better. It's about understanding your body's needs, especially as female lifters.

Totally agree! I've been vegan for seven years, and iron was a concern for me early on. I make sure to include fortified foods and take a supplement too. Spinach and lentils are great, but sometimes you just need that extra boost.

My wife actually had a rough patch with low iron last year! She was super tired and just couldn't lift her normal weights. A simple supplement turned things around for her. It's wild how something like that can affect your energy.

Just a heads-up, not all iron supplements are created equal! Some can cause constipation or nausea. i recommend going for a gentle one, like ferrous bisglycinate. If you're unsure, consult with a health professional. Definitely do your research.
