Keto + Lifting: My 8-Month Transformation Journey, Has Anyone Else Tried This?
Hello, fellow lifters! I wanted to share my journey over the past eight months while doing keto alongside my weightlifting routine. At 62, I decided to make some big changes after retiring from nursing, and I'm thrilled with the results so far!
When I started back in January, I weighed 190 pounds. I was primarily doing a standard diet with little guidance, and it just wasn't working for me anymore. I switched to keto, focusing on low-carb, high-fat meals, and paired that with a weightlifting program that I modified from a 5/3/1 plan. I aimed to lift four times a week, hitting major compound movements like squats, deadlifts, and bench press. The first month was tough, as my body adjusted to this new way of eating and training.
Now, here I am in September, weighing in at 160 pounds! I've lost 30 pounds, which is a huge milestone for me. My lifts have improved significantly too. For instance, my deadlift went from 135 pounds to 185 pounds, and my squat went from 95 pounds to 145 pounds. I feel stronger and more energetic than I have in years. I also noticed my body composition is changing; I'm seeing more muscle definition and less fat around my midsection.
I know keto isn't for everyone, and it can be challenging to stick to it long-term, but it has worked wonders for me. If you're considering a similar path or have any tips, I'd love to hear about your experiences! Has anyone else found success with keto while lifting? What's your approach? Let's inspire each other to stay active and healthy!
