I totally feel you! Cold rides are brutal. I invested in a good pair of gloves that are both warm and waterproof, and it made a huge difference. Plus, layering with a windbreaker on top really helps trap heat!

Definitely invest in some quality gloves! On my last ride, i tried those heated gloves and they were a lifesaver. I also use thick wool socks, because cold toes are the worst. Don't forget to check out foot warmers if it's really icy.

I get it, layering is key! I once made the mistake of wearing cotton, and I felt like a popsicle on wheels. Stick to moisture-wicking fabrics and you'll feel much better. Trust me, I learned the hard way.

You need a heated vest, bro. No cap, they're a lifesaver. 🔥

For me, the right gear makes or breaks a ride. I use a lightweight insulated jacket that doesn't restrict my movement. And I agree, thermal gloves are a must; nothing worse than cold fingers when you need to shift or brake.

6

Layering is super important! I wear a thermal base layer, a jersey, and then a windbreaker. Also, don't forget about gloves, my hands used to freeze until I got decent ones. There are tons of options that won't break the bank.

As a busy mom, I feel your pain! I usually go for a thermal base layer and then a nice insulated jacket. Also, be sure to wear good quality gloves, last winter, I skimped and it ended in frozen fingers. Not fun.

Cold rides are like cardio but worse. I'd recommend some heated gloves, but just stay indoors if you can, lol.

Ngl, I used to dread cold rides until I got a thermal jacket and windproof pants. That combo made all the difference. Plus, it's good motivation to hit the trails when it's cold out. Just don't forget to reward yourself with some hot chocolate afterward!

I feel you on the budget struggle! You can find some decent thermal gear at thrift stores if you're not trying to spend a lot. You'd be surprised at the hidden gems!

For real, layering is essential! I use a thermal base layer under my jersey and add a windproof jacket on top. It works wonders. Also, don't forget about warm socks, your feet will thank you.

This! i found that merino wool socks keep my feet way warmer than regular ones. I also love using a buff to cover my neck and face when it gets really chilly. Keeps the cold air out and it's super comfy.

facts. it's like they think charging $100 means it'll actually work. just layer up, like a burrito.

I get that layering can be hit or miss, but a good base layer is critical. Try out a synthetic or wool blend. They really trap heat better than cotton. And don't forget your head! A warm beanie can help keep the heat in

It's really important to find a balance between staying warm and overheating. I like to layer with breathable fabrics so I can regulate my temperature. A nice fleece-lined jacket is another great addition. Cycling is supposed to be enjoyable, not an ice bath!

Bro, ever tried toe warmers? They're like magic! Just slap 'em in your shoes and your toes won't be frostbite candidates anymore. ✌️

1

Merino wool is a solid choice, especially for base layers. I use it for my workouts and even lounging around. It's versatile and really warms you up while managing sweat well.

i swear by the hot drinks thing. but like, only if they're coffee. everything else is a waste.

1

Why did the bicycle fall over? Because it was two-tired! Just kidding, but seriously, keep that bike warm with a good cover and be sure to dress appropriately. 😂

The key is to not let the cold stop you. I usually add a beanie under my helmet for extra warmth. A little extra effort can really change your ride!

imagine biking like a burrito! just wrap yourself up and roll around 😂 but fr, invest in a good thermal jacket and you're golden.

Gloves? More like cold traps for fingers. I just stick my hands in my pockets and call it a day. 😂

I've been known to overdo it with layers, and then I'm sweating like crazy mid-ride. Just be careful to balance your layers, or you'll end up uncomfortable, which ruins the fun.

If you're tracking your caloric intake, you might want to increase it slightly during the colder months since your body burns more calories to maintain its temperature. Just a thought while you're getting those winter miles in.

4

You're right about the layers, but I also think about nutrition when cycling in cold weather. Eating a good meal before a ride gives you that energy and warmth, plus it helps with stamina. Just avoid anything heavy that'll weigh you down.

27

Facts! Just skip the ride if it's too cold. Hot coffee > frozen fingers.

Not to be all nerdy, but thermal regulation is super important when cycling in cold weather. It helps maintain your performance. Consider a jersey with a windproof front panel and a breathable back. And for your fingers, heated grips can be a game-changer!

I feel that cold weather can really take the joy out of riding. Have you tried layering with a cycling-specific balaclava? It covers your neck and face, so no more freezing breaths. Plus, it makes you look like a ninja, which is always a plus.

Layering is key for staying warm while cycling in the cold! I recommend starting with a high-quality base layer made from merino wool, which naturally regulates temperature and wicks moisture. Don't forget about your extremities too, investing in good thermal gloves and socks can make all the difference on those chilly rides.

5

Honestly, no one ever thinks about thermal socks until they're suffering. I learned the hard way. Those cozy, wool ones made a huge difference in my last ride. My toes didn't feel like icicles anymore, it was great.

I totally get it, riding in the cold can feel like punishment. I started using a thermal vest under my jacket and it really helped keep my core warm. Also, I keep a pack of hand warmers in my pockets for extra cold days.

2

I just stick to the gym. biking in the cold seems like a punishment. if you're not freezing, you're sweating. either way, not a vibe.

I hear you! I love cycling, but cold rides can be brutal. For me, a windproof jacket is a must-have, especially if you're riding into the wind. I also found that wearing a neck gaiter really helps keep the chill out, and it's super versatile for covering your face if needed.

u/grumpy_gains·

u really think those overpriced thermal gloves work? They all suck. Last winter, i used some cheap ski gloves and they were fine, didn't freeze off my fingers, so maybe just grab a decent pair and save some cash

2
u/awkward_gym_buddy·

Yeah, cycling gloves are a must! I once rode with my regular gym gloves and it was a disaster, my fingers were frozen solid. Look for gloves with thermal insulation and a good grip, because you don't want to slip off the handlebars!

1

To keep warm, i always joke that I have to look like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man! Seriously though, wearing a thermal top under your cycling jersey, plus a windproof outer layer helps keep the chill at bay. Just don't overdo it or you'll end up sweaty, which is a whole other problem

1
u/fiftyshadesofwhey·

Honestly, the right gear can transform your ride. I swear by my softshell jacket, it's breathable yet warm. You might also want to try layering a long-sleeve cycling jersey under your outer layer. And yes, hot drinks pre-ride help boost morale!

you guys have all this fancy gear, but honestly, i just layer up with what i already have. it's college life, man, can't afford all this. but the thrift store has some solid finds.
