Just started exercising at 60, but feeling lost. What should I focus on?

TL;DR: Just started exercising at 60 after health scares. Feeling lost on where to start and what to prioritize.

I just turned 60 and after some health scares, I decided it was finally time to get moving. I've never really exercised before, so im feeling pretty intimidated by the whole fitness world. I see so many programs and options out there, and I just don't know where to start. It's overwhelming, honestly.

I know I need to build strength and get my body moving, but should I jump right into lifting? I've heard strength training is important, especially as we age, but then there are all these cardio options too. How do I find a balance that won't scare me off?

Also, what should I prioritize when I'm at the gym? I want to avoid injury and ensure I'm doing exercises correctly. I've seen people with great form and then others who look like they're just winging it. I guess I just want to feel confident in what I'm doing.

If anyone has been in a similar situation, I'd love any tips or advice. I'm ready to make this change for my health and well-being, just need a little guidance to find my way!

Starting at 60 is impressive! Focus on building a solid foundation with bodyweight exercises first, like squats and push-ups. You can gradually add resistance with weights as you get more comfortable. Also, don't hesitate to ask trainers for help, they're there for a reason

100% agree with starting slow! I started running at 57 after a health scare too, and it felt super empowering. Now I'm racing 5ks! Just remember to listen to your body and have fun with it.

No cap, if u're feeling lost, just hit up some light cardio first. Walking on the treadmill is chill and helps get you moving without the intimidation of weights. Then you can ease into strength training!

Strength training doesn't have to be scary! You can do resistance bands or even yoga to build strength in a gentle way. You might be surprised by how strong you already are! And plant-based diets can help too if you want to explore nutrition options.

Recovery is as important as lifting, especially at 60. Make sure you're getting enough rest and consider foam rolling. It can help reduce DOMS and keep you feeling fresh for your next workout. Listen to your body!

Breathe, dude! You got this. It's not just about lifting big; it's about lifting smart. Incorporate yoga or stretching into your routine to build flexibility and keep your body in balance. Trust the journey, each rep counts.

Bruh, if you feel lost in the gym, you might just need to ignore the haters. I remember lifting for the first time and it was a total circus. Just focus on what you can do, and let the bros do their thing. Lift some weights and get comfortable, that's all that matters

Listen, lifting is great, but don't ignore nutrition. Tracking your macros with something like Cronometer or even just MyFitnessPal can help you see what you're eating. It's not all about lifting heavy, it's about fueling your body right too.

Strength training is definitely key as we age. Start with lighter weights and focus on form, think of it like learning a new skill. You could try a program like StrongLifts 5x5 for structure. It's beginner-friendly and helps with progressive overload without too much confusion.

Facts. You could start cooking your meals and focus on high-protein dishes! I whip up a mean chili with beans and lean meat. Meal prep can save you a ton of stress, trust me.

Consider joining a beginner's class at your gym. That way you can learn the ropes with others who are in the same boat. Plus, having a structured program can really help take the guesswork out of your workouts.
