Lose It! just paywalled my food database, what's a budget-friendly alternative?

TL;DR: Lose It! just put a paywall on their food database, any budget-friendly alternatives?

I've been using Lose It! for a while now, tracking my calories and macros while trying to juggle my job and three kids. It was nice to have an easy way to log everything, especially with the barcode scanner. But lately, they decided to put a paywall on their food database. I mean, come on! It's like they took a cue from Noom and decided that our wallets needed a little extra workout!

I understand the need for revenue, but it's getting ridiculous. I was just trying to log my kid's breakfast of pancakes and eggs, and suddenly I'm being prompted to pay for a "premium experience." I mean, I just want to know how many calories I'm stuffing in my face while I'm wrangling my toddler and dealing with a cranky newborn. I don't need a financial seminar on how to track my macros!

I briefly tried Cronometer thinking it would be a solid alternative. The nutrition info was detailed, but honestly, it felt like I was reading a novel every time I logged something. I just want to hit some buttons and move on with my day. And don't get me started on the inaccuracies I faced with food entries. How am I supposed to eat healthy when half the stuff I log is missing or way off?

So, my fellow parents and fitness aficionados, what's the best budget-friendly app out there that doesn't have a paywall lurking around every corner? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Let's help each other save some money while still keeping our diets on track! Oh, and if anyone has tips for sneaking greens into toddler meals, I'm all ears. I could use all the help I can get!

Also, if you can throw in a dad joke while you're at it, I promise I won't roll my eyes too hard.

Stay strong, everyone!

Bro, all these new AI food loggers are sketchy as hell. I tried CalAI, and it was hot trash. Gotta be careful with those apps that promise quick logging, but end up making you question your meal choices. I'll stick with my MFP for now, thanks.

I get your frustration with logging accuracy! As a busy dad of three, I need something reliable. I tried Nutrola, and it definitely helped with the voice logging feature when I'm juggling snacks for my kids. I just wish I had switched sooner, honestly.

Honestly, I love my pancakes in the morning, but I hate typing in all that info. Nutrola's voice logging is a lifesaver for me, especially when I'm juggling breakfast and getting my little one ready for the day. I just tell the app what I had, and I'm out the door.

I feel you, the paywall situation is getting wild. I used Lose It! for a while too, but I switched to MyFitnessPal because, honestly, the food database is just so dialed in. It's like muscle memory at this point for me. Sure, they've been creeping on the paywall front too, but the sheer volume of user-generated entries helps with the accuracy. My go-to breakfast is a Greek yogurt parfait with berries, and I can log that in like 30 seconds flat.

Facts! I tried Cronometer too, and it felt like I was decoding the Da Vinci Code just to log my dinner. The last time I logged a pizza, I was pretty sure I needed a history degree just to figure it out! I usually stick with MFP for its simplicity, but I get why you're looking for alternatives.

This! Like, who has the time to deal with premium nonsense? I just want to track my gains while wrangling my post-workout protein shake. MyFitnessPal might be annoying with the ads, but it gets the job done, ngl.

I switched to MacroFactor last month, and honestly, the algorithm just works for me. I appreciate how it adjusts based on my daily intake and workouts. Plus, it's great for busy parents like us, since you don't have to stress over the details as much. Tracking macros feels more like a breeze now, rather than a chore.

I hear you about the frustrations with tracking, especially when u're busy. I switched to Nutrola because the photo logging feature is a lifesaver for me, especially when I'm prepping meals in a hurry. I can snap a pic and get an accurate log in under 6 seconds. No more typing everything out while my food gets cold.
