Struggling with post-workout meals? Try this high-protein chili recipe!
So, I've been on this grind lately, hitting the gym for some serious mental health therapy (because who needs therapy when you can lift heavy things, right?). But honestly, after a killer workout, the last thing I want to do is stare at an empty fridge, hoping for inspiration. Enter my lifesaver: high-protein chili! It's filling, easy to make, and doesn't break the bank. Plus, it packs a punch in the protein department, so let's get into it!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper, diced (whatever color you want, I'm not judging)
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: jalapeños for heat, fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions:
- In a large pot, brown the ground turkey over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat if needed (don't get too precious with it though).
- Add the diced onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Get those scents wafting through your kitchen, it's basically aromatherapy.
- Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Let it cook for another minute to bloom those flavors.
- Toss in the black beans, kidney beans, and crushed tomatoes. Bring it all to a simmer and let it cook for about 20-30 minutes. Stir occasionally, and let it thicken up.
- Serve hot and top with jalapeños and cilantro if you're feeling fancy.

I know, I know, it sounds simple, but this chili is like a warm hug after a brutal leg day. It's high-volume, high-protein, and won't have you searching for snacks two hours later. I made a huge batch last week and just kept it in the fridge. Perfect for those days when my brain says 'snack', but my body needs actual nutrients. What do you all think? Got any other post-workout meals that are easy on the wallet? I'm all ears!
