Six Months Post-Bariatric Surgery: How Do I Nail My Tracking Game?

TL;DR: Six months post-bariatric surgery and struggling with tracking macros. Looking for tips on protein targets and nutrient timing while juggling family life.

Alright fellow nutrition nerds, here I am, six months post-bariatric surgery, and I gotta say, tracking my macros feels like trying to juggle with one hand tied behind my back. You know how kids are, always wanting snacks while I'm just trying to keep my protein up and carbs in check!

So, I'm sitting here thinking about my protein targets. I've heard varying suggestions, but with this new setup, what should I really be aiming for? I mean, I've got two kiddos who think they need to fuel up for a marathon every day, so getting quality nutrition in while keeping my own macros tight has turned into a bit of a circus act.

In terms of nutrient timing, do I need to be on the clock for meals and snacks, or can I play it a bit loose? Intermittent fasting was never really my jam, but it seems like a lot of folks swear by it for weight management. On the flip side, I'm also concerned about getting enough calories in to keep my energy up for those dad duties, coaching soccer, bike rides, you name it!

If anyone has good strategies for tracking post-surgery, or if you've navigated this rollercoaster successfully, I'd love to hear your tips. You can call me a dad on a mission, getting fit for myself and setting a good example for my kids!

Happy tracking!

Dude, I get the chaos with kids! When my daughter wants snacks, I prep some high-protein options like Greek yogurt or string cheese that she can grab. That way, I can keep my protein up too. Meal prep is a lifesaver. Plus, involving the kids in cooking can be fun and a great learning moment for them. It's a win-win!

It's great that you're focusing on nutrition after surgery! Keep in mind that tracking can help with accountability, but don't let it become a chore. If you find it tedious, try using an app that allows you to scan foods rather than inputting everything manually. Getting in a good routine with meal prep and having a weekly plan can make a big difference too.

Tracking can feel overwhelming, especially with kids around. I'd suggest using an app like MacroFactor, which can help simplify the process and auto-adjust your macros as needed. You can also quickly scan barcodes for foods instead of entering everything manually. Remember to stay consistent with your protein intake, aim for around 0.7-1 gram per pound of body weight.

For protein post-surgery, you should be looking at about 60-80 grams a day minimum. Your body needs that for recovery and muscle retention. Also, don't forget to track your micronutrients. If you're having trouble fitting everything in, consider protein shakes. They can help meet your needs without taking up too much stomach space.

I remember trying to track everything after my own surgery, and it was tough! I found using a simple journal to write things down helped me stay accountable. Plus, it's satisfying to see your progress on paper. If you want to track macros digitally, MyFitnessPal is user-friendly and has a massive food database. You can do this!

Honestly, tracking macros post-bariatric surgery isn't just about the numbers. Some people get way too focused on perfecting every gram and end up stressing themselves out. Just aim for progress, not perfection. You gotta find what works for you, so play around with different methods until something sticks. Sometimes, a little flexibility can be more beneficial than strict rules.

Nutrient timing can be a little flexible, especially with kids. Focus on getting enough protein and don't stress over precise meal times. If you enjoy intermittent fasting, you could try a shorter eating window to fit meals in between kid activities. Just make sure you're still getting enough calories for energy! It's all about balance.

Totally feel you on the snack chaos! Have you tried using protein snacks? I love these protein bars that actually taste good, and they're convenient for on-the-go! Just make sure to check the labels, some can be super high in sugar. Keep your focus on whole foods whenever you can, though. It's all about balance, right?

Yo, I'm all about family fitness! Getting your kids involved in your journey can make it easier. Why not set up family workout time? It can be as simple as a walk, or you could do some fun home workouts together. You'll keep your energy up and set a great example for them. Just remember, laughter counts as cardio!
