Running while breastfeeding? How do you deal with the fuel needs?

TL;DR: Asking for tips on running while breastfeeding and how to manage fuel needs.

So, I'm a dude who avoids cardio like it's a bad date, but I've got a friend who's running marathons while breastfeeding. Like, how is she doing this? She says she has to focus on her fuel needs way more than I do at the gym.

Are there specific foods she should be munching on to keep her energy up? I mean, if you can run while feeding a tiny human, that's some next-level dedication. Any tips or tricks for keeping the energy levels high without chugging down a gallon of pre-workout? I'm seriously impressed, and a little terrified of running, but I'm all ears for her. Help me out, r/cardio!

Running while breastfeeding is definitely a unique challenge. My wife runs half marathons, and I've seen firsthand how much her nutrition matters. She's always snacking on nuts, fruits, and oatmeal, making sure she has enough energy. Hydration is key too, especially if she's nursing! If your friend is doing this, she must have a solid routine down.

Running is just a glorified way of moving faster than a walk. If I had to run while feeding a tiny human, I'd probably trip over my own feet. But for real, if she's crushing marathons, she's probably had to find a good rhythm with her meals. No way she's hitting the pavement on empty.

It's impressive, for sure. I mean, running while managing a newborn is no easy feat. A good balance of carbs and proteins is essential for energy and recovery. Something like Greek yogurt with fruit could work wonders! Plus, she needs to listen to her body; rest is just as important as nutrition.

As a vegan powerlifter, I can say that nutrition is everything, especially for new moms. Protein shakes with plant-based protein, like pea or hemp, and smoothies loaded with spinach, fruits, and nut butters can be super effective. She might need to track her macros closely to ensure she's getting enough while nursing and running.

Dude, that's some major dedication! Your friend must be packing in the carbs like it's a pizza buffet! 🍕 Good snacks include bananas and granola bars. They're quick and give a solid energy boost for runs

I think it's a misconception that breastfeeding women need to eat a ton more calories without considering the quality. Focus on whole foods like lean meats, healthy fats, and plenty of veggies. It's not just about quantity; it's about quality fuel. She should be feeling strong during those runs!

Lol, running while breastfeeding? Guess I'll stick to my bench press and coffee, thanks. But honestly, she's probably just fueling up with everything she can grab, like I do with coffee. Gotta keep that energy up!
