Is 12 years of running finally taking its toll on me?

TL;DR: Running for 12 years is wrecking my body. What do I do?

So, I've been running for over 12 years, and let me tell ya, my body is starting to wave the white flag! 馃槱 My knees sound like a bag of chips and my hips are more creaky than an old door. I'm wondering if it's time for a change, maybe mix in some cycling or even gasp swimming? How do y'all keep your bodies from going full-on rust mode after years of pounding pavement? I'm just trying to keep my cardio game strong without becoming a walking injury report.

Running for that long can definitely wear on the joints, especially if you haven't prioritized recovery. Make sure you're incorporating some active recovery days, foam rolling, and stretching into your routine. Swimming or cycling can be great low-impact alternatives that still keep your heart healthy.

Honestly, if my knees sounded like chips, I'd throw them in a bowl with some salsa. Running is rough, and I'd totally switch to swimming. At least you don't have to worry about falling flat on your face.

Running is the ultimate cardio punishment, honestly. Maybe it's time to retire the running shoes and just lift? You could get a sick pump and skip the aches. Leg days will give you gains without the risk of knee crunches

Yeah, gotta be real here. You can't keep pounding the pavement forever without consequences. Coffee helps me recover, but I still think it's smarter to cross-train. Keep the running fun, but don't let it ruin your body. You might even end up loving a new activity.

Mixing in cycling sounds like a delicious idea, like pairing pizza with ranch dressing. 馃コ Your body might thank you, and you can still enjoy cardio without the constant pounding. Plus, it's super fun to explore new routes on a bike.

You should consider cross-training, for sure. Repetitive stress injuries from running are common, and diversifying your workouts can help prevent that. Have you tried any strength training to balance things out? It could make a big difference.

I tried running for a week, ended up with shin splints and a bruised ego. 馃槀 Seriously though, mixing in swimming or cycling could save you from being a walking injury report. Just make sure to ease into it.

Big facts, I switched to cycling after my knees went 'pop pop' after every run. 馃槀 You gotta listen to your body! And tbh, keto and cardio go hand in hand when u're looking for low-impact options. Try that out and enjoy the gains!
