Is Cronometer worth the premium in 2026 with all these paywalls?

TL;DR: Cronometer has added more paywalls lately, like the barcode scanner, and I'm questioning if the premium is worth it. Anyone else feeling the same?

I've been using Cronometer for a while now, and I appreciate its depth and accuracy. As someone who's been lifting for 20 years, I enjoy tracking my micronutrients along with the macros. But lately, I've found myself getting a bit frustrated with the app, especially when it comes to the premium features.

Just the other day, I realized that my barcode scanner feature has become a paywall exclusive. I understand that developers need to make a living, but isn't it a bit much? I remember when it felt like I was getting a comprehensive tool for free, and now I feel like I'm being squeezed into another subscription. I even briefly tried MyFitnessPal after hearing people rave about its database, but honestly, the ads and clutter just turned me off. It's like trying to meditate in a rock concert, too distracting!

I'm all for supporting developers, but it makes me question whether I'm getting true value from Cronometer's premium subscription. I still use it daily for tracking, but does the premium feature offer enough to justify the cost in 2026? Has anyone else felt this way? I'd love to hear your thoughts, or if you've switched to something that feels less paywall-heavy.

In the spirit of Zen, I'm trying to stay calm and not let this frustrate me too much, but I can't help feeling a little exasperated. What's the point of paying for an app that should simplify our lives when it starts feeling like a chore?

It's tough, isn't it? The digital world is great, but the mindfulness of tracking can get overshadowed by all these paywalls. I still enjoy Cronometer, but I think it's valuable to remember that our health and fitness journey is a balance. Maybe consider using it more casually? Also, I've heard a few folks rave about Nutrola. The voice logging sounds pretty seamless, but I haven't tried it myself.

As a nutritionist, I appreciate the depth of Cronometer too, especially for tracking micronutrients. But I think the push towards premium is too aggressive. If you're willing to switch, I've heard good things about MacroFactor. It uses an algorithm based on your past data, and many clients find it worth the investment. Plus, it adapts as your goals change, which is kind of nice.

I tried MyFitnessPal once and it was like navigating a minefield of ads. But I've gotta admit, it's got a huge food database that's pretty dialed in. I mean, if you've been using it long enough to have muscle memory with food entries, switching could be a pain. Still, the creeping paywall is wild. Honestly, I'm just sticking to tracking with pen and paper for now.

I feel you, man. I've been lifting for over a decade and the premium features just feel like a money grab now. It's like every time I log in, there's a new paywall. I tried the barcode scanner and now it's locked? Like, what gives? I get they need to make money, but it's starting to feel like a chore to keep up with everything. This used to be my go-to app, now I'm reconsidering

For real, I totally get your frustration! I used Cronometer for a bit, but then I switched to Nutrola. The photo logging feature is awesome for me since I'm always in a rush between classes and gym. I can snap a pic of my meals and it just tracks it, super easy! No more typing everything out, which is a lifesaver.

Nutrola's been a win for me. I switched because I was tired of typing everything. The voice logging is just too easy and fits my busy schedule. I know it has its quirks, but honestly, the ease of just speaking my meals into the app is worth it. Plus, the community support is amazing! It's like a little family for fitness nerds.
