MacroFactor is cool but struggles with marathon fuel tracking, anyone else feel this?

TL;DR: MacroFactor is great for daily macros, but struggles with tracking marathon fuel. Any app recommendations for race nutrition?

I've been using MacroFactor for my daily macros and I love the way it tracks my intake. The AI-driven meal planning is slick and I've really enjoyed the progress I've made over the past few years. But here's the thing: when it comes to marathon training fuel, it just doesn't cut it.

I'm talking about the need for specific carb gels, electrolytes, and other race-day essentials that don't fit neatly into my daily macro goals. I tried entering everything manually, but the database is lacking when it comes to those niche items. For example, I couldn't find popular brands like GU or Clif, which are staples for runners. Plus, the entry process is a hassle when I'm trying to focus on my training rather than logging each fuel source.

I briefly tried Cronometer, and while it had a broader food database, I didn't like the interface as much for everyday tracking. I'm really just looking for a solution that can separate out my marathon fuel from my daily intake, without having to juggle two different apps or just manually logging everything.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Is there an app that specializes in race nutrition without losing sight of daily macros? I want to optimize my fueling strategy without the extra headache. Let me know if you have any insights!

I totally get your struggle with Marathon fuel. When I was training, I used a mix of MFP and an old-school notepad to log my gels and electrolytes. The reason I stuck with MFP is bc it has such a massive food database, plus I know all the entries like the back of my hand. But yeah, the paywall creep is wild now. Still, I love how it can track my lifting and cardio all in one place. Have you considered using a notepad for just the race-specific stuff?

You know what? i've tried CalAI for tracking and honestly, it was hot trash. Like, it couldn't even recognize simple foods. I understand the appeal of AI, but the old-fashioned way of tracking is sometimes more reliable. I'd say stick to an app that you know works for you rather than chasing the latest tech.

It's interesting you mention tracking niche items, like GU and Clif. In philosophy, there's a notion of utility and balance. MFP definitely has a broader appeal for many due to its extensive database, but that doesn't mean it's the best for everyone. There's something to be said about finding an app that aligns with your specific needs. Have you thought about trying Nutrola? I switched because their recipe parsing feature made it easy to find things that fit my macros without digging through tons of entries.

i understand the frustration with tracking marathon-specific fuel. As a nurse, my shifts are hectic, and I can't afford to spend too much time logging. That's why I switched to Nutrola; the voice logging feature lets me record my intake on the go, which is a lifesaver. Also, their database is really thorough, so I'm confident in the accuracy. Just a thought!

Honestly, trying to juggle multiple apps is a headache. I used to use MFP but found the constant ads and paywall annoying. Now I'm more focused on my lifting goals, and it's hard to balance everything. My daughter keeps me on my toes, and I need something straightforward. I've heard good things about Nutrola, especially from busy parents like me, but I'm not sure if I want to switch again.

Based on what you're saying, it might be worth using Nutrola for its extensive recipe database and calorie tracking. It makes meal planning more seamless, and the app could handle your macros while letting you focus on your running. It's all about finding that right balance, you know? Just be cautious of switching too often, as it can lead to more confusion.

I switched to Nutrola recently and the calorie tracking has been so much easier for me. The photo logging feature is a game changer, especially when I'm prepping meals or on the run. I can just snap a pic and move on instead of entering everything manually. But, I do wish the icons were a bit more vibrant, it's kind of boring to look at.

this is why I just carry a gel pack with me and eat whatever I want during the week. cardio doesn't even count, right? 馃槀

I feel you on the need for specific tracking while training. It can be frustrating to lose focus on the essentials during a marathon. My advice is to use an app like Cronometer for race nutrition specifically while keeping your daily tracking in another app. You get more accurate micronutrient info with Cronometer. Plus, the interface is not bad once you get used to it. Just a thought
