Anyone have a cottage cheese ice cream recipe that actually slaps? Need that 30g protein per serving!

TL;DR: Looking for a cottage cheese ice cream recipe that hits 30g protein per serving. Share your best ones!

I just wrapped up my first marathon and I'm still riding that high, but let me tell you, post-run recovery snacks are a whole journey on their own. I've been trying to find ways to get in my protein while satisfying that sweet tooth. Cottage cheese ice cream has been on my radar for a while, and I've tried a few recipes, but most just miss the mark.

I want something that's creamy, flavorful, and doesn't taste like I'm chewing on a block of protein powder. If you've got a recipe that really delivers, I'd love to hear it! I'm aiming for something around 30g of protein per serving, and if it can be made on a budget, even better.

Here's a quick idea I tried recently that worked pretty well:
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of low-fat cottage cheese (200g, ~206 kcal, 28g protein)
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder (15g, ~48 kcal, 4g protein)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup (21g, ~64 kcal)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon of nut butter for some healthy fats (16g, ~94 kcal, 3g protein)

Instructions:

  1. Blend all the ingredients in a food processor until smooth.
  2. Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary.
  3. Pour into a container and freeze for at least 2 hours.
  4. Scoop out and enjoy!

This batch turned out decent, but I'm still on the hunt for that perfect recipe. If you have any tips or your own concoctions that knock it out of the park, drop them below! Let's keep pushing towards those protein goals while still enjoying our treats. Looking forward to hearing what you all have!

I've never thought of cottage cheese for ice cream! Is it rly good though? Like, can it really taste sweet? I've only used it in savory dishes. Maybe I need to try it out after hearing all this.

Okay, so I actually tried a cottage cheese ice cream recipe last week, and I was pleasantly surprised! I blended the cottage cheese with a bit of Greek yogurt, vanilla extract, and a scoop of protein powder, then added a handful of chocolate chips. It was super creamy and only took like 5 minutes! I think the yogurt rly helped with the texture, and it tasted way better than some of the other recipes I've tried. Honestly, give it a shot!

Not gonna lie, cottage cheese ice cream sounds kinda weird. But hey, if it fits your macros, go for it! My usual post-workout treat is just a protein shake with peanut butter and a banana. Takes two minutes and tastes way better, ngl. Sometimes, simple wins over creative.

To be honest, the texture of cottage cheese can be off-putting if you're not used to it. I've found that blending it really does help smooth it out. Plus, mixing in some almond milk can make it creamier too. If you're trying to keep it budget-friendly, store brands of cottage cheese often work just as well as the fancy stuff.

Here's a hack: let it sit out for a few minutes before you dig in. That way, it softens a bit. No one wants to struggle with an ice block. Just be careful to not let it melt too much, or it'll turn into a slushy mess.

One more tip: if you're open to it, throw in some spinach or greens. Sounds weird, I know, but you won't taste it and it boosts the nutrient profile! I've tried it in smoothies before and you really can't tell. It's a solid way to get those extra vitamins in after a long run.

First off, congrats on finishing your marathon! That's an incredible accomplishment. I totally get where you're coming from with the search for tasty recovery snacks. I've had my share of protein-packed recipes that just didn't cut it. One thing I found is that blending in some frozen fruit really helps add that creamy texture and sweetness without being overwhelming. Try adding in some frozen mango or berries along with your cottage cheese. It'll elevate the flavor profile significantly while keeping that protein content high.

Just whip some cottage cheese with a scoop of your favorite protein powder and freeze it! If you're looking for that creamy goodness, throw in some Greek yogurt and maybe some whipped cream to get that ice cream vibe. Plus, memes say protein powder is just a fancy ingredient for desserts now. Like, who doesn't want to eat dessert and still hit their protein goals?

For real, making this ice cream with just cottage cheese and a little fruit can save you time. Sometimes, less is more. I feel like some recipes go way overboard. Just keep it simple, my friends.

OMG, i can't believe I didn't think of letting it sit out! I'll definitely try that next time. I feel like I need a cottage cheese ice cream support group at this point! 😂 Who knew this would get so deep?

Y'all are making me curious about cottage cheese ice cream! I usually go for protein powder smoothies after a run. I've found adding a tablespoon of instant coffee makes a big difference for flavor. Also, try experimenting with different sweeteners if honey isn't hitting the spot. Agave or even stevia can change the game! The key is to play around with it until you find that balance.

Honestly, I'm more about that keto life, so cottage cheese isn't usually in my meals. But if you're looking to keep it low-carb, maybe try adding some cocoa nibs instead of chocolate chips. They're lower in sugar and still give that crunch! Plus, it fits nicely with a higher protein diet.

I'm just worried about trying to freeze it. How does that even work? Like, does it really turn into ice cream? I want that creamy texture, not a rock! Is there a trick to making sure it doesn't freeze too hard?

Dude, I feel you on this struggle. I've tried to make protein ice cream with all kinds of stuff. I keep it simple with just cottage cheese and frozen fruit, and I actually add some milk for the creamy factor. It's not perfect, but it does the trick post-workout.

Tbh, I'm not a fan of super sweet stuff, so the honey could be skipped for me. I usually just do cottage cheese, protein powder, and ice. You might find it refreshing if you don't want all that sweetness after a workout.
