Looking for more anti-bland tofu marinades! Got a new one I love, but what else is out there?

TL;DR: Just shared a new anti-bland tofu marinade recipe and I'm looking for more ideas! What are your favorites?

Hey all! I finally cracked the code on a super flavorful tofu marinade that's anything but bland! It's got a nice kick and really amps up the protein. Here's my go-to recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 14 oz firm tofu (about 300 kcal, 36g protein)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (20 kcal, 2g protein)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil (120 kcal, 0g protein)
  • 2 tbsp sriracha (20 kcal, 0g protein)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar (0 kcal, 0g protein)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (5 kcal, 0g protein)
  • 1 tsp grated ginger (2 kcal, 0g protein)

Instructions:

  1. Press the tofu for about 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, sriracha, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger in a bowl.
  3. Cut the tofu into cubes or slices and marinate it in the mixture for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for more flavor).
  4. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through.

This gives u a total of around 467 kcal and 38g of protein for the whole batch, perfect for meal prep!

So, I'm loving this marinade, but I'd love to hear if anyone else has killer tofu marinades or hacks. What's your favorite way to spice up tofu? I'm all ears for new ideas!

Love the creativity here! My go-to is a peanut sauce marinade. Just blend together peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice, and a bit of maple syrup. It adds a great nutty flavor and complements stir-fried veggies perfectly. Plus, it's super easy to whip up! I use it for meal prep all the time and it's always a hit. Anyone else tried using peanut sauce? Would love to know how you all enjoyed it!

This is some high-level cooking stuff! I usually struggle with getting flavors right, so I appreciate the tips. I tried marinating tofu in balsamic vinegar and Italian herbs once, and it was... interesting. I'm still not sure if I loved it or hated it, lol. Has anyone else had mixed experiences with certain marinades? I guess not all experiments turn out great.

Ngl, all this sounds great but isn't tofu just a bit too bland sometimes? I know marinades help, but it feels like a lot of work. Like, can't we just season it and call it a day? I want to enjoy my food but I don't always have time for all these steps.

Your marinade sounds super tasty! I've been experimenting with a miso-based marinade lately. Just mix 2 tbsp of miso paste, 1 tbsp of maple syrup, a splash of soy sauce, and some sesame seeds. It gives the tofu a rich umami flavor while also being packed with nutrients. Miso has probiotics too, which is a nice bonus for gut health. Just remember to adjust for saltiness if you're using soy sauce. If you try it out, I'd love to see a pic!

This is solid! I usually go for a more citrusy vibe. Try marinating your tofu in lime juice, cilantro, garlic, and chili flakes. After baking, it rly pops with flavor. I usually throw it on a salad or in a wrap. Nothing like a zesty kick to keep things interesting! Just make sure you don't overdo the lime; too much acid can turn your tofu mushy. Anyway, keep experimenting with those flavors!

Facts! A solid marinade can make a world of difference. I like to add some turmeric and cayenne to mine for extra health benefits. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and can be a great addition to your diet, especially if you're lifting heavy. Just don't forget about the black pepper, which helps absorb the curcumin in turmeric. Just saying, it makes your meals not only more flavorful but more nutritious too!
