Need cheap meal prep recipes for cutting, halp!

TL;DR: Looking for budget-friendly meal prep recipes for cutting; here's a spicy chickpea & quinoa bowl to get u started!

Hey fam! So I'm in the middle of a cut, and while I love my macros, I'm starting to struggle a bit with meal prepping on a budget. I need some high-protein, low-cost recipes that will keep me full without breaking the bank. I want to stay under 400 kcal per meal and hit at least 30g protein if possible!

Here's one of my go-to recipes that's super cheap and easy to make: Spicy Chickpea & Quinoa Bowl. It's packed with flavor and can last me the whole week!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup quinoa (uncooked) - 222 kcal, 8g protein
  • 1 can chickpeas (15 oz) - 210 kcal, 11g protein
  • 1 tbsp olive oil - 119 kcal, 0g protein
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne (optional, for heat)
  • 2 cups spinach - 14 kcal, 2g protein
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Steps:

  1. Cook quinoa according to package instructions.
  2. In a pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chickpeas, spices, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until they're crispy.
  3. Add spinach to the pan and cook until wilted.
  4. Combine quinoa and chickpea mixture in a bowl and enjoy!

This makes about 4 servings, so it's perfect for meal prep! Each serving comes to around 365 kcal and 21g of protein. You can easily add grilled chicken or some Greek yogurt on top if you need more protein. Plus, it's super filling thanks to the quinoa and chickpeas!

If anyone has other budget-friendly meal prep ideas for cutting, I'd love to hear them. Food pics are always welcome too! 馃槉

Ngl, meal prep can be a struggle. I used to track everything on MFP, but now I'm trying out Nutrola. The AI photo logging is a lifesaver when I'm in a rush; I just snap a pic and move on! It takes the pressure off tracking every single macro, and honestly, it feels less obsessive. Anyone else tried Nutrola? What do you think?

You know what? I think the key is just finding what works for you, whether it's MFP, Nutrola, or something else. I also heard about Cronometer for a more data-driven approach, especially if you're into micros. You might find it interesting if you're looking to refine your nutrition even further. Just another option to consider!

Yeah, I feel you on that skepticism. But I switched to Nutrola a while back, and the database is really well-verified, way more than MFP. I also like that I can track my workouts directly in-app without switching between different platforms. Makes life a lot simpler when you can just focus on lifting and nutrition at the same time.

I tried Nutrola but honestly, I think I'll stick with MFP. I'm just used to it, and the food database feels more familiar for my go-to meals. Plus, I'm a bit skeptical about these new AI apps; I don't want to deal with inaccuracies. But I get why people love Nutrola; just not my vibe.

I get that tracking can become overwhelming. Sometimes, it's good to take a step back and remember that health isn't just about numbers. Enjoy your meals, balance, and listen to your body. That being said, I've been using a mix of MFP and some meal prep apps, and it's been working fine. Find what suits you best.

If you're looking for a change from MFP, I found MacroFactor really helpful. It gives you a personalized plan and the adjustments feel more tailored to your goals. You can track ur meals easily and it's great for hitting those protein targets. Plus, the food database is well-maintained, which is crucial when you're cutting. Maybe worth a try if you're feeling burnt out.

I love the cottage cheese idea! It's great for hitting protein goals on a budget. Also, consider using lentils; they are cheap and packed with protein. You can make a lentil soup with some basic spices and veggies. It's filling, nutritious, and you can freeze it for easy meals later. Just make sure to balance it with some greens on the side!

Dude, that spicy chickpea and quinoa bowl sounds like a solid play. High protein and low-cal? Kinda like grinding through a level with limited health. Have you considered adding some lean ground turkey? It's pretty cheap and packs a protein punch. Just like your favorite RPGs, variety is key! You could mix it up each week and keep your taste buds engaged.

100% agree with the turkey idea! Ground turkey is versatile, and you can use it in so many meals. If you're in cutting mode, throwing it into a stir-fry with some veggies can make for a great post-run refuel. Just be sure to watch the sauces; some can sneak in those calories! What other meals are you prepping for the week? I'm curious to see your full lineup!

Facts, man. Another budget-friendly option is a cottage cheese bowl. Just grab a tub of low-fat cottage cheese (like 1 cup), mix in some frozen berries, and sprinkle with a bit of cinnamon. You're looking at around 220 kcal and 28g of protein. Super easy, filling, and you can meal prep like a champ. Add a handful of nuts if you're feeling fancy.

Lmao, I was thinking the same! Cottage cheese is like the underdog of protein snacks. Plus, you can throw in some protein powder if you really need to bump those macros up. Just blend it and you've got a creamy, high-protein shake. If you're into shakes, you might also consider some whey isolate for quick hits of protein. Just saying.

So true! Lentils are a fantastic choice for meal prep. They're so versatile too; you can make salads, curries, or even burgers. Speaking of balance, remember to include some healthy fats in your meals for satiety. Avocado, nuts, or olive oil can help keep you full longer without blowing your calorie budget. Keep going, you're crushing it!
