**TL;DR:** Lost 140 lbs over 4 years, now lifting 225 lbs. Coffee is my secret weapon.

So, it's been a long ride, but I finally made it from 320 lbs to 180 lbs over the past four years. Not a quick fix, but consistency and a lot of caffeine kept me energized. I'm sharing some progress photos and a few thoughts on how caffeine played a role in this transformation.

When I started, I was feeling like a literal couch potato. I remember lifting 135 lbs for bench presses and just feeling completely drained afterward. Now, I'm hitting 225 lbs for my 1RM, and honestly, coffee has been my best friend through this whole process. I drink a cup before workouts, and it just seems to hit differently on days I lift heavier. I swear I could lift the fridge with enough caffeine!

I've also focused on meal prep and macros, which helped a ton. Here's a simple breakdown of my weekly routine:
- **Lift 4x a week:** Following a PPL split
- **Cardio:** 2x a week, mostly HIIT
- **Macros:** ~2000 calories, 40% protein, 30% carbs, 30% fat

So yeah, progress is real. Anyone else have a long journey like this? What's your caffeine routine like? I need to know if I'm alone in this coffee obsession.

Caffeine is cool and all, but it's not the magic bullet. I've seen people rely on it too much, and it messes with their sleep. Sleep is the real MVP for gains.

That's amazing! Meal prepping can really make or break your nutrition. I usually do Whole30 recipes for my week, keeps me feeling light and energized. Do you ever follow any specific diet plans, or just stick to macros?

I feel you on the heavy lifting! I just hit a 405 lb deadlift last week and couldn't believe it. But I gotta admit, I don't rely on caffeine. I just let the adrenaline push me through those last few reps. It works for me!

LOL, MFP is a nightmare sometimes! I switched to Cronometer, and it's so much more user-friendly. Plus, I like how it breaks down nutrients in detail, not just calories.

Also, what do you guys track your macros with? I've been using MyFitnessPal, but im thinking about trying MacroFactor. MFP feels a bit outdated at times

It's really about finding what makes you feel good and fit, isn't it? I've seen so many people transform by doing what they love, whether it's lifting, yoga, or HIIT. Balance and enjoyment matter.

Facts. Caffeine isn't for everyone, especially if you're prone to jitters. I just know it gives me that extra edge. Have you ever tried any other energy boosters, or are you strictly caffeine?

Facts. Cronometer is definitely better if you want to go deeper into your nutrient intake. I'm lowkey obsessed with tracking my vitamins and minerals now. It's eye-opening!

Totally! It's like lifting and being a parent at the same time. I love seeing parents crush their fitness goals. Also, can we just appreciate how strong a 1RM bench press of 225 is?! What was your motivation to start?

Yeah, and if you're not enjoying your workouts, what's the point? Fitness should be fun! Shoutout to the people who make the gym feel like a party.

Skill issue if you can't handle your caffeine! It's about finding what works for you. Just don't rely on it too much or you'll crash hard.

Seriously, fitness is so personal! I've met folks who thrive on lifting, and others who just want to dance it out! As long as u keep moving, that's what counts. And don't forget to have fun with it!

Deadass, sleep is everything. I try to stick to my routine and hit at least 7 hours. Without that, lifting feels like a struggle.

You gotta do what works for you! Personally, HIIT has been my savior for burning calories, especially with coffee as my sidekick. Plus, it saves time. Win-win!

I've been lifting for years now and tracking everything manually. It works for me, but I get how using an app can help with accountability. Just make sure you're getting enough protein; I aim for 1g per lb of body weight.

- **the_caffeine_chaser** (score 23, 2026-04-07T08:38:10.829+00:00)
First off, major props on your journey! Caffeine is like rocket fuel for lifting. I usually hit up a double shot of espresso before hitting the gym, and it just amps me up. Seriously, I'm not even human until that caffeine kicks in.

- **the_caffeine_chaser** (score 22, 2026-04-07T13:29:58.829+00:00)
100% agree with the caffeine boost! I can't lift without my morning coffee. I've noticed that even a small increase in caffeine before workouts can really up my energy and focus. Anyone else do the whole pre-workout coffee combo? It feels like cheating sometimes, but hey, whatever works.

100% agree on the caffeine! I drink a cup before every workout too. It seriously gives that extra push when im feeling sluggish. Plus, nothing like that coffee high right before you smash a PR

Facts! I love that u shared your journey! I'm all about that leg day grind too. But for real, did you track your macros with an app, or just wing it? I used MyFitnessPal for ages, but switched to MacroFactor recently. Way more accurate, and it helps me stay accountable. Honestly, counting calories feels so tedious sometimes, but it gets results. Also, who needs coffee when you can lift heavy and feel like a badass without it? Just saying.

- **crossfit_nope** (score 8, 2026-04-07T10:50:29.353+00:00)
I get that, but some folks need to realize that lifting heavy isn't everything. I focus on endurance workouts instead. Those can be just as beneficial, especially for those who struggle with weight loss.

I really admire your dedication. Lifting is fantastic, but don't forget to balance it with recovery. As someone who's seen a lot of injuries, I can't stress enough how important rest days and gentle stretches are. Your body needs time to heal.

Yesss, that's what I'm talking about! I love lifting heavy and coffee is literally life. Just finished leg day and my quads are screaming. Those caffeine jitters? Totally worth it.

Napping after leg day is a must! My recovery routine includes a good meal and a short nap. You wake up feeling refreshed and ready for round two.

I'm the same way! I can't lift without my coffee. But if I don't track my food, I end up under-eating or overindulging on weekends. Gotta keep that balance.

You might wanna consider a deload week every few months too. Helps with recovery and keeps you from burning out. I always feel stronger after a good deload.

Yeah but let's be real, caffeine's not a magic fix. You still gotta put in the work! I tried it once before a HIIT workout and ended up feeling jittery instead of energized. Stick to what works for you.

I love seeing transformations like this! At 62, I started lifting a few years ago, and it's never too late. I can bench 140 lbs, and I focus on staying active and enjoying my workouts. Consistency is so crucial, even for us older lifters.
