**TL;DR:** Cronometer's NEAT estimates are inconsistent for me, making it hard to plan my calorie intake. Anyone else have this issue?

I've been using Cronometer for a while now to track my calories and macros, and I've noticed that the NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) estimates are all over the place. I mean, I get that it's tough to calculate, but one day it says I'm burning like 2,800 calories just from daily activity, and the next day it's down to 1,900. I'm consistently active with calisthenics and normal daily stuff, so I can't figure out why it varies so much.

I tried Yazio for a hot minute too, but their food database felt a bit lacking. I love that Cronometer has a solid database and allows for more detailed nutrient tracking, but this NEAT estimate issue is frustrating. I'm using a wearable that syncs to Cronometer, so you'd think it could get a more accurate read.

Anyone else facing this kind of inconsistency? How do you deal with it? Should I just start averaging my own estimates and ignore the app? It's messing with my ability to plan my intake effectively, and I could use some advice on how to handle it. Appreciate any insights!

I think you're right to question Cronometer's estimates. I've noticed a similar inconsistency. I switched to MacroFactor a few months ago, and their algorithm gives me a more stable estimate for my NEAT. It's a bit of a different vibe but worth it for the accuracy. Plus, it makes tracking macros a breeze, and I can feel the difference in my energy levels. It's definitely helped me plan better!

I think you're doing great by keeping track. Consistency is key! Just remember that those daily fluctuations in NEAT are normal, and as long as you're active and feeling good, you're on the right path. Keep it up!

Yeah, NEAT is notoriously difficult to pin down because it can fluctuate based on so many factors, like your daily routine or even how much you fidget. I've had days where I burned 2,500 calories just from pacing around the house, while other days it barely hits 1,800. I try to log everything accurately, but I wouldn't stress too much about the numbers. Instead, focus on how your body feels and adjust your intake accordingly. Progress pics can really help with that!

I had similar issues when I started tracking. It's all about learning how your body responds over time. I think averaging out the estimates sounds like a solid plan. Just keep pushing yourself, and you'll find a rhythm!

If you're still feeling stuck, maybe try mixing up your routine a bit. New activities can spark different levels of NEAT. Just remember to stay motivated and celebrate those little wins along the way!

As a former athlete, I can say tracking NEAT can feel like chasing shadows. The variance can be so frustrating, especially when you've got a consistent routine. I'd suggest not just relying on the app's estimates. Instead, consider doing a weekly average based on your activity logs and how you feel. Remember, the body isn't a machine, and sometimes it just doesn't burn as much, even when you think you've been active.

I get what you're saying! Sometimes my app says I'm burning calories just sitting on the couch. I guess I'm a NEAT professional couch potato! But in all seriousness, if you track your workouts and daily activity for a few weeks, you'll start seeing patterns. And hey, there's always room for dad jokes in fitness!

I still think MFP has its perks. The food list is pretty dialed in, and I know exactly where to find my go-to items. Sometimes switching apps just feels like a hassle, and I'd rather stick with what I know. It's not perfect, but it works for me!

Have you tried Nutrola? I switched from Cronometer because I loved how the voice logging works for me while I'm prepping meals. I can just say what I'm eating without having to stare at my phone. It really saves time and keeps me focused on my workouts instead of logging every little thing!

Yeah, switching to Nutrola really helped me with my tracking burnout. The app lets me log with my voice, and I don't feel as anxious about it. I still track but in a more relaxed way, which is nice! Definitely think it's worth a try if you're feeling overwhelmed.

Honestly, if you're feeling off about the estimates, you might want to check out MyFitnessPal. I know some hate on it for various reasons, but it has a pretty established food database, and the community support is solid. Just gotta ignore the paywall creep! 😂 But I get it if you want something different.

I get it, NEAT is a slippery number! But tracking every calorie can sometimes lead to obsession. You might want to take a step back and focus on how your clothes fit or your energy levels instead of just the numbers. It's all about the long-term game and how you feel, not just what the app tells you.

Dude, I feel you! One day my NEAT says I'm burning like a pizza oven, and the next, I'm just a sad, deflated balloon. I think part of it is just the app's algorithm and how it tries to guess your activity levels. Sometimes I wonder if the app's having an existential crisis or if it's just me! 😂

I hear you, man. NEAT tracking can feel like a rollercoaster ride. Have you thought about incorporating more structured activity into your day? Sometimes I add in an extra walk or some active chores, which really helps even things out and boosts those daily estimates. Plus, it gives me more time away from screens!
